The Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment, Walailak University distributing "Lipao" saplings to promote vocational training for inmates, creating opportunities before their release, on April 23, 2026.
- On April 23, 2026, The Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment, Walailak University saplings of the Lipeau plant, cultivated under the Royal Project for Plant Genetic Conservation initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, were donated to Nakhon Si Thammarat Central Prison in Phra Phrom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. These seedlings will be used to promote vocational skills training for inmates and prepare them for reintegration into society.
- On this occasion, Mr. Somporn Chanarong, the Commander of Nakhon Si Thammarat Central Prison, along with prison officials, had the honor of receiving the saplings. The rattan saplings will be planted within the prison grounds to be used as raw material for the production of rattan weaving, a renowned traditional handicraft of Nakhon Si Thammarat province.
- The objective of this project is to promote vocational skills training among inmates, enabling them to generate income after release. It also aims to preserve and continue the local handicraft traditions of the province, ensuring their continued development.
- In addition, scientists from The Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment, Walailak University analyzed soil samples and shared knowledge about planting and maintaining rattan with correctional officers, enabling them to effectively and sustainably manage the cultivation areas in the long term.
- This support marks another significant step in integrating cooperation between educational and correctional institutions to improve the quality of life and create new opportunities for inmates, as well as promote the community economy through sustainable local handicrafts.
