The Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment, Walailak University, in Collaboration with S.K. Powerable Co., Ltd., Organizes a Hands-on Workshop on “Operation and Maintenance of Laboratory Fume Hoods in Accordance with
International Standards” on 11 June 2026.
- On 11 June 2026, The Center for Scientific and Technological Equipment, Walailak University, in collaboration with S.K. Powerable Co., Ltd., organized a hands-on workshop entitled “Operation and Maintenance of Laboratory Fume Hoods in Accordance with International Standards.” The workshop was held at Meeting Room 1, Scientific and Technological Equipment Building 5.
- A total of 43 staff members and interested participants attended the training, which was designed to enhance knowledge and practical skills in the operation and maintenance of laboratory fume hoods in accordance with international standards. The workshop also aimed to strengthen laboratory safety practices and promote excellence in scientific laboratory operations.
- The workshop was honored to welcome Mr. Pasin Manapong, a Laboratory Safety Standards Specialist from S.K. Powerable Co., Ltd., as the guest speaker. He delivered comprehensive lectures and hands-on training sessions, providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
- The training program focused on enhancing participants’ understanding and practical competencies in the following key areas:
- - Safe Operation of Laboratory Fume Hoods: Best practices and essential safety precautions for the proper use of chemical fume hoods to minimize risks and ensure the safety of laboratory personnel.
- - Proper Arrangement of Equipment and Chemicals Inside the Fume Hood: Best practices for organizing laboratory equipment and chemicals within the fume hood to maintain unobstructed airflow and ensure maximum ventilation efficiency.
- - Recognizing and Responding to Warning Alarms: Guidance on identifying abnormal alarm conditions and implementing appropriate corrective actions to ensure the safe operation of laboratory fume hoods.
- - Safe Laboratory Work Practices: Encouraging the adoption of safe laboratory behaviors and best practices in accordance with international standards.
- - Preventive Maintenance of Laboratory Fume Hoods: Best practices for routine inspection and basic maintenance to ensure optimal performance and extend the service life of laboratory chemical fume hoods.
- - Hands-on Practical Training: Participants engaged in practical exercises using the EASY LAB laboratory fume hood, allowing them to strengthen their confidence and develop the skills required for its safe, correct, and efficient operation.
- This workshop marked another important step in fostering a strong Laboratory Safety Culture at Walailak University. By enhancing participants’ knowledge and practical competencies, the training helps reduce the risk of chemical-related accidents and reinforces confidence that laboratory engineering safety systems, particularly chemical fume hoods, are being operated and maintained in accordance with international standards.
